Who This Is For

For artists, writers, designers, curious travelers, and thoughtful individuals seeking inspiration, beauty, connection, and creative renewal.

Catherine Richards, M.Arch.
Founder · Creative Director · Art Immersions.

I’m Catherine — a designer, artist, Parsons professor, and founder of Art Immersions.

For years, I’ve led creative programs in Paris and around the world built around art, atmosphere, conversation, and cultural experience. What interests me most is how beauty changes perception — how certain places, meals, objects, music, and conversations reconnect us to creativity, presence, and feeling.

I created Art Immersions to bring people into that experience more deeply: not simply to visit Paris, but to experience it differently.

I’ve led creative journeys in Paris, Siena, and Jaipur, and this Paris program is my most personal work yet.

I hope to meet you in Paris.

Your Week in Paris

Five Days. Five Senses. One Experience.

Taste. Space. Scent. Sound. Synesthesia.

A five-day journey through Paris exploring art, atmosphere, culture, and the senses.

Taste becomes color · flavor becomes line · texture becomes emotion

An exploration of taste, ritual, pleasure, and creative perception through food, conversation, and Parisian café culture.

  • Morning studio atelier, Montmartre — taste-mapping where flavor becomes color, texture becomes line, and meals become creative material.
  • Studio lunch and café wandering — time to settle into Montmartre through markets, courtyards, cafés, and slow observation.
  • Welcome dinner together, Le Marais — an intimate Paris table where the group begins to form over wine, shared plates, and conversation.
The first sense opens the door. Paris begins through taste.
Included: Studio lunch · Welcome dinner, Le Marais
Space becomes emotion · structure becomes feeling · what you remove becomes the work

A day devoted to form, composition, and the emotional architecture of space — through flowers, drawing, gardens, and performance.

  • Floral salon atelier, Montmartre — working with branches, blooms, asymmetry, and negative space as creative structure.
  • Drawing and watercolor — translating floral composition into line, color, proportion, and gesture.
  • Afternoon museum visit — a visit to one of Paris’s beautiful museums and gardens for slow looking, observation, and quiet drawing.
  • Evening performance, Montmartre — song, story, and the particular electricity of a room alive with creative history.
The way a garden is composed is the way a table is arranged. Structure creates freedom.
Included: Group lunch · Evening performance
Scent becomes memory · memory becomes identity · the invisible becomes form

An exploration of scent, atmosphere, memory, and identity through writing, wandering, and perfume creation.

  • Writing salon in a hidden Paris museum — a quiet session on scent, memory, identity, and personal atmosphere.
  • Paris flea market wandering — scent, texture, color, objects, and accumulated time. Wandering as creative practice.
  • Private perfume atelier — working with botanical materials, resins, citrus, florals, and woods to compose your own fragrance.
  • Name it, bottle it, take it home — your fragrance becomes a sensory memory of the week.
Scent carries memory. What you make today travels home with you.
Included: Group lunch · Private perfume workshop
Sound becomes mark · rhythm becomes color · listening becomes creation

A day of listening, rhythm, silence, and translation — exploring how sound becomes movement, mark, memory, and atmosphere.

  • Sound & frequency atelier, Montmartre — listening, vibration, rhythm, and silence as creative material.
  • Mark-making and translation — sound becomes line, wash, gesture, color, and movement on paper.
  • Afternoon sensory experience, central Paris — a contemplative encounter in one of Paris’s storied neighborhoods.
  • Apéro and final group meal — one of the great classic brasseries of Paris. A room that holds conversation the way a concert hall holds music.
By now the senses begin to overlap: texture is heard, rhythm is seen, and taste has color.
Included: Apéro · Final group meal
Color has a flavor · sound has a shape · scent has a texture · space has a mood

A final synthesis of the senses through reflection, creative practice, conversation, and shared experience.

  • Closing studio salon, Montmartre — a final creative work combining color, words, scent, texture, sound, memory, and space.
  • Reflection circle — the group gathers to share what opened, shifted, or became visible over the week.
  • Wax-seal ritual — notebooks sealed with sketches, writing, scent strips, pressed botanicals, and fragments of Paris.
  • Celebration lunch in Montmartre — a final shared table before the city releases you at your own rhythm.
You return home seeing, tasting, listening, and creating differently.
Included: Closing celebration lunch
The exact flow may shift slightly to honor what’s most alive in Paris that week.

FAQ

I’m thinking of coming alone… is that okay?

Yes — and most guests do.

This is a very welcoming, intimate group, and many arrive solo and leave with meaningful friendships and a strong sense of connection.

What does the trip feel like?

A Living Story Through Paris

Each retreat is designed as a living narrative unfolding through space, atmosphere, food, scent, sound, conversation, and creative ritual.

Mornings begin with studio salons and sensory ateliers in Montmartre. Afternoons unfold into hidden Parisian spaces, museums, cafés, gardens, and moments of independent exploration. Evenings gather around intimate dinners, performances, music, and conversation.

Structured enough to feel held. Spacious enough to feel free.

What kind of people join?

Curious and creative individuals looking to reconnect to themselves and renew inspiration. This retreat attracts artists, designers, writers, and curious travelers from all walks of life.

No experience is required — only a desire to live more artfully. Whether you’re a practicing creative or simply seeking renewal, you’ll find a circle of kindred spirits who share your love for beauty, conversation, and discovery.

People join from all over the world. You do not need to be a professional artist. Only curious, open, and ready to live more artfully.

Do I need to be an artist or have experience?

Not at all.

There are no expectations of output — only invitations to presence.

This experience is designed for all levels — from complete beginners to practicing artists in all fields.

The focus is not on technical skill, but on creativity, perception, and expression.

What's a typical day like?

Each day blends:

A guided creative session (morning)

Exploring Paris (afternoon)

Shared meals or experiences (evening)

Each day follows a gentle rhythm designed for balance and discovery.

Morning: Studio Atelier, creative workshops, and connection.

Afternoon: Curated Paris experiences and open time.

Evening: Shared meals, performances, or quiet inspiration.

The pace is spacious and intentional — a retreat into beauty, rhythm, and presence.

It’s structured — but never rigid.

You’ll have space to rest, wander, and be present.

Where will we stay?

The vibrant and artistic neighborhood of Montmartre/Pigalle.

Our home base is in the heart of Montmartre, near Avenue Junot and Rue Lepic — one of Paris’s most charming and storied enclaves. This quiet, sunlit pocket of the neighborhood blends café culture, artist studios, and elegant village life — a true sanctuary within the city. Your boutique hotel blends comfort and style, offering the perfect space for reflection and renewal.

Known for its rich artistic past, Montmartre has been home to Picasso, Van Gogh, and Dalí. Its cobbled streets, cafés, and ateliers still pulse with creative energy — lined with patisseries, flower stalls, and award-winning bakeries. From here, you’ll venture into the wider city — discovering hidden fragrance studios, intimate concert halls, and gorgeous interiors that celebrate Parisian art and design.

We stay in a boutique hotel in Montmartre, one of the most beautiful and artistic neighborhoods in Paris.

What is the typical age range?

Guests are typically mid-20s to 50s+.

What matters most is not age, but a shared desire for creativity, beauty, and meaningful experience.

Payment plans?

Yes. Reserve with a $500 deposit, pay in full, or choose a monthly payment plan. For September, the plan is 4 monthly installments of $738 (shared) or $988 (private). Payment options are presented at checkout.

Most meals are shared on the trip, and we build in some independent time to allow people to explore.

What You Will Take Home

By the end of five days, guests typically leave with:

  • A scent they made by hand — in a Paris atelier using French botanicals, oils, and aromatic materials.

  • A personal art kit and notebook — filled throughout the week with sketches, collage, writing, seals, textures, and collected memories from Paris.

  • A culinary memory — a culinary atelier with local ingredients, seasonal wines and foods, and a new way of experiencing flavor through attention and creativity.

  • Insider Paris — a deeper relationship to the neighborhoods, cafés, ateliers, gardens, and cultural spaces most visitors never experience.

  • A renewed creative perspective — not a list of techniques, but a different relationship with your own attention and perception.

  • Meaningful friendships — the group is small and carefully chosen. Most guests arrive solo and leave with a circle of women they stay in touch with long after Paris.

But the thing guests talk about most isn't the perfume, or the food, or even the art.

It's the feeling of being fully present — maybe for the first time in years.

Each day is built around one sense: taste, space, scent, sound, and finally synesthesia — the moment all five start speaking to each other. The studio work, the city, the conversations at dinner, the long afternoon wandering — they're not separate activities. They're one continuous experience of paying attention.

Most guests arrive feeling stretched thin, creatively blocked, or disconnected from what inspires them. They leave with work they made, stories they'll carry, and a clarity about their own creative life that's genuinely hard to manufacture at home.
